Si eres adolescente, seguramente te gusta escuchar música todo el tiempo y en cualquier lugar. Si es así, es importante que conozcas los posibles efectos de exponer tus oídos a niveles de música elevados durante periodos prolongados. Infórmate mejor y cuida tus oídos. De esta manera podrás llegar a viejo con una buena audición.

No hay nada más divertido que escuchar la música que te agrada. La música te relaja, te ayuda a sentirte mejor y en algunos casos te libera del estrés, la tensión y la ansiedad. Desde la infancia, las personas tienen una conexión con la música, pero es en la pubertad y en la adolescencia, cuando los jóvenes comienzan a elegir la música que desean escuchar. La música es como una banda sonora que acompaña a los jóvenes y a los adolescentes adonde quiera que van. Es común encontrarlos conectados a sus iPods, Mp3, iPhones, entre otros reproductores de música. Aunque están conectados todo el día, no sienten que les duelen los oídos, pero desafortunadamente su audición sí se ve afectada.

Algunos adolescentes prefieren poner los equipos de música en el auto a todo volumen, mientras que la mayoría, permanecen horas y horas conectados a sus audífonos. Lo que muchos jóvenes no consideran, es que el estar conectado a los audífonos todo el tiempo o que el escuchar la música a un volumen muy alto, puede causarles problemas de audición.

Recientemente se llevó a cabo un estudio en la Universidad de Ghent en Bélgica, bajo el liderazgo de la doctora Hannah Kempler. Este estudio encontró que los aparatos como los iPods y otros reproductores de música, pueden ser potencialmente dañinos para los oídos. A corto plazo, este tipo de aparatos puede causarte daños que llevan a la pérdida de la audición. ¿Te imaginas quedarte sordo a tan corta edad?

Lo que sucede es que cuando te expones a niveles de ruido altos o incluso moderados, los nervios y las células de la parte interna del oído se ven severamente afectados. En algunos casos, se genera un daño tan grave que estas células se llegan a destruir. Esta destrucción es lo que ocasiona la sordera o falta de audición.

¿Cuántas horas crees que son necesarias para comenzar a experimentar daños en la audición? En realidad no son tantas como te imaginas. Estos investigadores estudiaron los cambios en la audición de 21 personas expuestas a diferentes tipos de volúmenes al utilizar sus MP3. En el estudio se utilizaron los audífonos tradicionales, y aquellos que se ponen dentro del oído. Los hallazgos del estudio son impresionantes. El estudio encontró que los participantes mostraron cambios temporales en su audición, luego de escuchar una hora de música pop-rock en sus aparatos portátiles. ¿Te imaginas? Con sólo una hora de música a todo volumen, puedes afectar tu audición. Imagínate, entonces, lo que puede pasar cuando pasas horas enteras conectado a tus audífonos con el volumen de la música a todo lo que da.
